Health Connect promises to sync data from different fitness apps into one
After collaborating in the development of Wear OS 3the new version of the operating system for smartwatches of the American firm, Google and Samsung have once again worked together to create Health Connect, an application that will allow us to sync all data collected by various fitness apps like Fitbit or Samsung Health, among others.
Thus, Health Connect may have access to all the data of the other fitness applications that we have installed on our terminal, as long as we give them permission to do so. Once this data is available in Health Connect, any of these applications will be able to read them and thus provide us with more detailed information about our daily physical activity.
For example, if we have a Samsung smartphone and we use the Samsung Health app, but the activity bracelet we use is from Fitbit, thanks to Health Connect we can synchronize the data collected by our bracelet with Samsung Health.
In addition to apps from the big Gs, Google Fit and Fitbit, and Samsung Health, this new app from the Mountain View company will also be compatible with other apps such as Leap Fitness, MyFitnessPal or Withings. Although any developer who creates a fitness app can access the Health Connect API to bond with her.
Initially, Health Connect will be able to collect the following information from other fitness apps that we use daily:
- Register of activities as run or ride a bike
- Body measurements such as weight and metabolic rate
- nutritional information such as the amount of water we drink per day or the data of the foods we consume (calories, sugar, etc.)
- Sleep data, including duration and type of sleep
- Menstrual cycle tracking and ovulation tests
- Health data such as blood sugar, body temperature and blood oxygen levels
In addition, all data stored in Health Connect will be safe, since are encrypted on our own device and we can revoke access by any other fitness app.
